02 Dec, 2013 06:33:59
Dec 02, 2013 (LBO) - Firms from India and Canada are among the countries that have bid for 13 off-shore oil exploration blocks in Sri Lanka, a media report said.
Sri Lanka's Ceylon Today newspaper, citing unnamed sources said Cairn India and Bonavista Energy Corporation of Canada had submitted bids.

Earlier from India said ONGC Videsh would team up with Cairn to bid for Sri Lankan blocks.

The report said Saliya Wickramasuriya, head of Sri Lanka's petroleum exploration declined comment saying an official announcement would be made next week.

International bidding closed last Friday after being given an extension.

Cairn has already found natural gas in a block it owns near the ones on offer, and is working out commercial terms with the government.

Several oil majors had earlier collected bid documents and there were expectations that some of them may bid.
