Charge against CB governor's intervention over tender board baseless: PM
17 Mar, 2015 17:32:10
Mar 17, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka's Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran has taken leave since Monday until the investigations are over, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Making a special lengthy statement in Parliament on Tuesday, the Premier rejected allegations leveled against CB governor saying that it is baseless to say that he has intervened into the tender board process.

"We called bids through public auctions. After offering treasury bills of over 20 billion rupees, he (Arjuna Mahendran) instructed the tender board of the public debt department to accept up to 10 billion rupees. He gave these instructions in front of two deputy governors,"

"Charge against CB governor's intervention over tender board is baseless. After that, tender board presented their recommendations. Those recommendations have been duly accepted by CB governor without any alteration."

"The current investigations are not limited only to this bond issue. it includes public auctions and private placements of bonds issued from 2012." Wickremesinghe said.

I can't understand why PM is attacking others when raised a concern about CB bond issue. PM don't need to be nervous if everything is in order. He can nominate anyone to the committee not UNP lawyers if nothing to hide.

Proven innocent even before the investigation is over?
